Path of Exile Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of additional damage or more AD or even more affixes.
Often times however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is often surpassed by Rare-grade equipment due to their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kit to salvage upgrade components from other items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can take on. Upgrading a piece of armor to maximum upgrade level will increase its ability to absorb damage. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be heavier.
There are several kinds of armor upgrades available in the game, and they all have different effects. For example, some upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below.
Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, as indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require a charge to use, and are shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either constantly updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest method to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be found by exploring the area and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive however it is obtainable through smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces of the highest level. The player should be aware, however, that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level can increase its defense values. However, it will also reduce the speed and agility of the piece. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The defensive boost gained generally isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of specific aspects of a weapon. For example an upgrade could improve the damage that is caused by a shotgun's shells or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that enhance their inherent qualities. The majority of players will prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to allow them to progress faster. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their teammates use to boost their strength. Jewels

In addition to the upgrades mentioned above additionally, players can acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. The first trinket players will unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they'll be able to get amulets, rings, and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. item upgrader are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.
These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by a hero's top stats.
A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is true especially if you are looking to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
In the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their trinket to a red, while top and middle players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have an impact on the ability of a hero to control the map.
In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also find other trinkets in the form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, such as the main quest of a chapter or killing a particular boss.
